Effective Date: 06/24/2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Citizen Prep ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information. We built Citizen Prep to be private by default: you do not create an account, and your study progress stays on your device. A few features send a small amount of text to our services to work, as described below.
Citizen Prep does not ask you to sign up, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. To manage subscriptions, the app generates a random, anonymous identifier on your device that is not linked to your real-world identity.
The Live Interview feature uses your device's microphone so you can answer questions by speaking. Your speech is converted to text by your device's own speech-recognition system (provided by Apple or Google). We do not record, store, or upload audio of your voice. Microphone access is optional — you can use the rest of the app without it.
To grade your spoken answers, speak questions in a natural voice, and look up state-specific answers, the app sends limited text to our secure backend, which relays it to a third-party AI provider (Google's Gemini API). This text may include:
This text is processed only to return a result (a grade, spoken audio, or a looked-up answer) and is not used to build a profile of you or to identify you. We do not send your name, contacts, location, or device identifiers with these requests.
Optional premium subscriptions are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your payment-card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status; RevenueCat processes purchase and receipt information along with the anonymous identifier described above. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Your progress, streaks, known cards, quiz history, selected state, and settings are stored locally on your device. This data stays on your device unless you opt in to your operating system's own backup service (e.g., iCloud or Google backup), which is governed by Apple's or Google's policies.
Citizen Prep does not display third-party advertisements and does not share your data with advertising networks.
The features above rely on these providers, each governed by its own privacy policy:
Citizen Prep is intended for adults preparing for U.S. naturalization and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Requests to our backend are sent over encrypted connections. Because we do not maintain user accounts, we do not retain a personal history of your activity on our servers. Transient text sent for AI processing is used only to fulfill the request.
You can deny or revoke microphone permission in your device settings, manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store / Google Play account settings, and clear your local data from within the app's settings.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
